Intranets

Intranets are communication tools that foster collaborative work, exchange of information and vertical and horizontal feedback in a company’s internal structure.

How we think an intranet should be

The Intranet is one of the most important collaborative and communicational tools within a company. It is generally a cross-departmental, even a cross-country or region tool. That is the main reason why Intranets need to balance the organization’s main objectives and the specific needs of each region, area and/or employee.

Added to and intranet’s complex communication function is also its technological complexity.  There are now plenty of pre-designed and standardized tools and applications that can be applied relatively easily.  This enables development teams to focus more on the technology rather than on the needs for communication or collaboration within a company.

We believe an intranet is a communication tool targeted to a specific audience with specific expectations and needs. That is why we use user-centered design methodologies, considering these needs and expectations allowing us to build a collaborative space focused on generating productive and satisfactory user experiences.

How we work when designing an intranet

How we develop an intranet

  • Through a user-centered design methodologies
  • Involving project leaders and end-users
  • Using techniques such as qualitative interviews and tests with users
  • Designing positive communication and collaboration experiences

We believe that project leaders (human resources, technology, communication, etc.) as well as end-users should participate in the process of developing and managing Intranets.

That is why we use user-centered design methodologies when developing Intranets. This approach allows us to know the organization’s needs, as well as the needs of the different departments and employees.

Our aim is to offer satisfactory communication and collaboration experiences for Intranet end-users. We do this through friendly, intuitive, and easy-to-use designs.

To obtain this we use specific techniques such as

  • Qualitative interviews
  • Work place surveys
  • Tests with users
  • Iterative prototyping
  • Usability test

The use of these techniques allows us to know the organisation's culture and the specific objectives of the Intranet, as well as the levels of knowledge, expectations and needs of the different departments and employees.
